On Prayer

Prayer is a way of communicating with the mysterious, loving God.  I have taught classes on prayer and have also facilitated mini-retreats of 2-3 hours at parishes (easily expandable to one day). The retreats focus on how to deepen one’s prayer life, with the long term goal of growing more in love with God and others around us.

Prayer topics:

• discovering the prayer form that’s right for you
• sacred reading (praying with Scripture)
• integrating prayer and work/daily living
• dealing with distractions in prayer
• praying with Eastern Christian icons
• seeking to pray beyond words (silent prayer)

On Marriage

My husband Terry and I attended Engaged Encounter and have been married since 1984. One year, we assisted our pastor in setting up the premarital program and served as a Sponsor Couple for engaged couples. We have spoken to college students and parishes about marital spirituality.

Marital spirituality topics:

• marriage as a journey
• marriage as a dance
• marriage in terms of “spiritual nakedness”/vulnerability
• how to pray with your spouse
• sacred reading for couples (praying with the Bible)
• the Holy Spirit and marriage

Planning future events

To invite Julie (or Terry and Julie) to speak to your group, write an email to the address below, including the following:

• your name, the organization’s name, and contact information
• description of the event (place, date, time, theme)
• what topic(s) you would like discussed
• the length of the presentation in minutes or hours
• description of the group, including an approximate size of the gathering
• any other pertinent details

Fees vary, based upon various factors. Due to other commitments, the number of events we can attend is limited. Because of this, advance planning is greatly appreciated.
